Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Knowledge of application programming techniques and the execution and maintenance of automated information systems. Knowledge of Visual Basic, Javascript, HTML, XML, Web Services, SQL, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2, Business Intelligence Configuration and Design, Scripting Languages, and Configuration Management Tools. Ability to modify and document program code to correct errors or enhance program capabilities. Ability to test programs and make amendments. Job Summary: The Software Support Specialist is responsible for developing computer applications from detailed requirement specifications. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy. |
Typical Functions: Writes or follows a program specification using structured code to develop an application software program to production status. Responds and assists users with questions and concerns relating to a particular area, such as hardware, software and network stations. Develops and maintains current expertise in a variety of application software packages. Installs, configures, and maintains network, hardware, and software at various levels, and tests and debugs programs as necessary. Prepares program logic layout, data flow outlines, and narrative descriptions in developing applications. Evaluates and makes recommendations for necessary adjustments to applications to satisfy user requirements, and provides recommendations on the purchase of user hardware/software. Assists in planning, preparation and conducting seminars on software, hardware, network, or other computer related topics. Assists other Software Support Specialists in the coordination of activities associated with computer support services. Performs other duties as assigned. |
Specific Duties and Responsibilities: The AGFC Software Support Specialist will serve as the Agency's "Front-End Developer", designing, building and maintaining custom applications as well as the Agency's websites using the appropriate coding and scripting languages, content management tools, and other related software applications. Responsibilities will include: - Write, design or edit web page content and perform website updates as needed - Develop new user-facing features - Build reusable code and libraries for future use - Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs - Write code to implement those visual elements into various web applications - Create prototypes, mockups, and staging sites for review and feedback - Optimize websites and applications to ensure fast loading speeds - Ensure the code is valid, properly structured and compatible with multiple browsers, mobile devices, and operating systems - Identify issues discovered by testing and feedback from internal and external clients, and correct problems or refer them to the appropriate teams for resolution - Document style guidelines for website content and implement procedures for ongoing website revision and maintenance - Work with agency divisions and other stakeholders to prioritize project needs, develop content, select solutions and resolve conflicts - Review designs created by graphic designers; ask any necessary clarifying questions before starting on work - Collaborate with members of the website team (including designers and back-end developers) to consistently improve functionality and user-friendliness of the web applications, taking an active role on both sides and defining how the application looks as well as how it works, as well as determining performance requirements, equipment or legal issues, such as privacy and accessibility - Maintain updated knowledge of the development industry and any advancements in technology - Perform A/B evaluations - Responsible for American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance |
