Minimum Education and/or Experience: The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife or Fisheries Management or a related field; plus 2 years of experience in wildlife or fisheries management or forestry/land management; OR the formal education equivalent of a high school diploma plus 6 years of field experience in wildlife or fisheries management or forestry/land management.

Preferred Education and/or Experience: A bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, conservation biology, natural resources, environmental science or a related field |
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Knowledge of the equipment and techniques used to maintain buildings, grounds and equipment. Knowledge of fish propagation, harvesting, cultivation and maintenance activities. Knowledge of tissue and blood sampling techniques used in collection research. Knowledge of research guidelines and data analysis. Ability to operate Microsoft Office software and use an iPhone for data collection. Ability to train new technicians and organize daily work schedules. Ability to conduct sampling and examinations and review collected samples. Ability to analyze samples and data, develop conclusions and make recommendations to enhance the habitat. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. |

Job Summary: The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) Biological Technician II is responsible for habitat and maintenance projects on Wildlife Management Areas. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. |
Typical Functions: Conducts on-the-ground habitat and maintenance projects on Wildlife Management Areas, hatcheries, and public waters. Conducts research and monitoring efforts. Oversees structure and facility maintenance and operations. Serves as regional nuisance animal coordinator. Trains new technicians regarding the collection and research of fish, blood, water, soil, and plant species, and examination of animals and specimens to detect diseases or other problems; participates in the review of new technicians’ work processes. Reviews and researches samples and data, develops conclusions, and makes recommendations regarding analyses. Serves on statewide species teams. Supervises and directs contractors conducting work on Wildlife Management Areas to ensure work is completed according to the contract. Performs other duties as assigned. |

Special Job Dimensions: This position requires the person to be able to stand for long periods, work around water, lift heavy loads, bend, and push. This position requires a small amount of travel for continuing education and assistance to other areas and regions. This position regularly operates heavy equipment and handles chemicals that may be dangerous if handled improperly. It also handles explosives and propellants when trapping animals or managing nuisance animals, such as beavers. |
