Job Summary: The AGFC Internship program is designed to help students gain education and practical experience related to the conservation work AGFC performs and to meet hands-on training requirements necessary for students to earn their degree. This training is critical to students pursuing a conservation career and is often the deciding factor in gaining employment after college. |

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Intern job duties will focus on four (4) Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) in central Arkansas: Camp Robinson SUA, Bell Slough WMA, Stone Prairie WMA, and Gulf Mountain WMA. Duties will include: exotic species eradication through several types of herbicide application, fireline preparation, prescribed fire exposure, Wood Duck trapping and banding, neotropical migratory bird banding, moist soil management, hiking trail upkeep, Monarch habitat monitoring, boundary line and sign maintenance, and a variety of other natural resources management projects, data collection efforts, and maintenance projects. Equipment used will include tractors, UTVs/ATVs, GPS equipment, and other farm implements with expert instruction from area staff. There will be other opportunities to get experience on other WMAs in Region 7 and work with other Wildlife Management Division employees. Other WMD opportunities will include working with Private Lands Biologists, Habitat Biologists, Wildlife Diversity Coordinator, Non-game Mammal Coordinator, and several other species program coordinators. Other opportunities will be available to work a small amount with Fisheries, Operations, and Education. For Fisheries, in the Mayflower Office, this intern will have direct exposure to Fisheries District 10 biologists, the Stream Biologist, and the Aquatic Nuisance Program Coordinator. Opportunities to work with our Regional Operations Maintenance Coordinator will also be available, providing exposure to construction and maintenance projects in the area. There may also be opportunities to work on some of the Education Division projects at the Mayflower Shooting Range and the Little Rock Nature Center. Experience with the Enforcement Division can also be arranged. |

Special Job Dimensions: AGFC interns are paid $13.00 per hour and work approximately 40 hours per week (no more than 400 hours for 10 weeks). Intern positions will be available through June, July, and August. Flexible work schedules can be established with your division supervisor.
