The selected intern will coordinate directly with his/her college or university to obtain course credit for their work. AGFC interns are paid $15.00 per hour and work approximately 40 hours per week (no more than 360 hours for 9 weeks). Intern positions will be available from May to August. | Preferred Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Technical Knowledge: Basic familiarity with the ArcGIS ecosystem (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online), specifically the ability to view, edit, and share spatial data layers. This includes familiarity with web-based tools and an interest in configuring applications such as ArcGIS Experience Builder or Survey123. Core Abilities: A solution-oriented mindset with the ability to diagnose technical issues (such as broken web maps, broken links, or user access hurdles) and research potential fixes. This role also requires an aptitude for using resources like tax records, parcel databases, maps, and other online repositories to verify and update GIS records, including land ownership, property boundaries, and various asset attributes. Professional Skills: The ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and partner agencies (such as USFS or USACE) to verify information or coordinate the sharing of data. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail when updating records and the ability to manage multiple project tasks simultaneously. |

This training is crucial for students pursuing a career in conservation and often serves as a deciding factor in securing employment after college. |

| Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Based at the AGFC Headquarters in Little Rock and reporting to the Sr. GIS Analyst, the GIS Intern will primarily assist with migrating legacy GIS web applications to modern, supported platforms within ArcGIS Online. This modernization project involves identifying deprecated applications, reconfiguring them using current technology, and updating broken data links to align with the agency’s new data architecture. The intern will be responsible for preparing project outlines, tracking progress, and maintaining thorough documentation within the division's project management system. Beyond application migration, this position supports various GIS operations, including the creation of visual products, assisting with spatial analysis, updating GIS data records, and providing technical user support. Key tasks include researching parcel ownership in coordination with internal staff and partner agencies (such as the USFS or USACE) to update property records. Additionally, the intern will help integrate external data sources into AGFC applications and provide general GIS support for agency-wide projects as needed. |
