The selected intern will coordinate directly with his/her college or university to obtain course credit for their work. AGFC interns are paid $15.00 per hour and work approximately 40 hours per week (no more than 360 hours for 9 weeks). Intern positions will be available from May to August. | Job Summary: The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) Summer Internship program is designed to help students gain education and practical experience related to the conservation work performed by the AGFC, as well as to meet hands-on training requirements necessary for students to earn their degree. This training is crucial for students pursuing a career in conservation and often serves as a deciding factor in securing employment after college. |

| Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Intern job duties will focus on four (4) Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) in central Arkansas. Those include Camp Robinson SUA, Bell Slough WMA, Stone Prairie WMA, and Gulf Mountain WMA. Duties will consist of: exotic species eradication through several types of herbicide application, fireline preparation, prescribed fire exposure, Wood Duck trapping and banding, neotropical migratory bird banding, moist soil management, hiking trail upkeep, Monarch habitat monitoring, boundary line and sign maintenance, and a variety of other natural resources management projects, data collection efforts, and maintenance projects. The equipment used will include tractors, UTVs/ATVs, GPS equipment, and other farm implements, with expert instruction provided by area staff. There will also be opportunities to gain experience on other WMAs in Region 7 and to work with other Wildlife Management Division employees. Other WMD opportunities will come from working with Private Lands biologists, Habitat biologists, Wildlife Diversity Coordinator, non-game Mammal Coordinator, and several other species program coordinators. Other work opportunities will include a small amount of work with the Fisheries, Operations, and Education divisions. For example, in the Mayflower office, this intern will work with the Fisheries District 10 biologists, the Stream Biologist, and the Aquatic Nuisance Program Coordinator. Opportunities to work with our Regional Operations Maintenance Coordinator will provide exposure to construction and maintenance projects occurring in the area. There will also be potential to gain exposure to some of the Education Division's projects at the Mayflower Shooting Range and the Little Rock Nature Center. Exposure/experience with the Enforcement Division can also be arranged. |
