Full Time:
$12.75 - $12.75 Annually
Minimum Education and/or Experience:

Must be a full-time student enrolled in the 2018 spring semester in an accredited college or university, completed a minimum of 60 semester hours as of May 1, 2018, declared a major and have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.  Must also meet one of the following criteria:  a resident of Arkansas enrolled in any college or university; a resident foreign exchange student enrolled in an Arkansas college or university; or, a nonresident enrolled in an Arkansas college or university.  Applicant must demonstrate prior coursework or knowledge related to work area.  Selected intern will coordinate directly with their college or university to obtain course credit for their work.    

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

Experience working with school aged children. Experience in public presentations. Certification educational programs offered by AGFC.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of central Arkansas wildlife communities. Skills in maintaining fresh water aquariums. Ability to interact with volunteers.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and lift 50 pounds.

Job Summary:

The AGFC’s internship program allows students to gain practical experience and meet hands-on training requirements necessary to earn their degrees and gain valuable career-oriented experience.

Program Goals and Opportunities:

Students participating in the competitive internship program are provided an opportunity to:

  • Gain important and practical job skills in the conservation field while helping AGFC meet education and conservation goals;
  • Choose a career path in conservation and make a long-term commitment to the management of Arkansas's natural resources;
  • Network with public and private agencies concerning environmental programs and projects.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Intern will work with the Central AR Nature  Center staff and volunteers in providing a wide range of  educational programs and events for youth and adults.

- Care of live animal exhibits including fish, reptiles and amphibians.
-Assist Master Gardener and Master Naturalist volunteers with native plant gardens and wetland cleanups.
- Intern will develop temporary exhibits within the nature center exhibit hall and promotion within the River Market District.
-Assist with the operation of the main information counter meeting and greeting the public and assisting with retail purchases.
-Will be involved with Kidfest and  Riverfest events held at the nature center.

Other Specific Information:


$12.75 per hour (maximum of 400 hours).  Flexible work schedule available during May, June, July, and August.
